Insights about inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy interferences of major rare earth elements in complex e-waste feeds

The advent of rare earth elements (REEs) with optoelectronic properties has shifted the technology paradigm from digital to a smart and hybrid world. Their substantial uses also resulted in large piling up e-waste. Therefore, e-waste is now lucrative recycling target for recovery such critical raw materials. often challenged by dilute metal concentration, complex composition, difficult chemical characterisation. Generally, characterisation involves elemental determination techniques, as inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) or mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). ICP-OES attractive research sector because it higher matrix tolerance lower cost than ICP-MS. In this work, intensity at 445 line positions measured an instrument was compiled 2D diagram map interferences 27 prominent lines 9 REEs. second shows impact 230 neighbouring each of, total, 17 (i.e., REEs 8 non-REEs) single-standard solutions terms concentration element type affected. spectral interference correction algorithm proposed here had been developed us process obtain pure Y, Eu, Tb fluorescent powder (FP) spent lamps. analysis approach presented can be applied any type. To underline this, paper gives examples dissolved FP surrogate NdFeB magnet samples.
